The fajã appears from the sea. A raw lava platform forced out by volcanic activity — no sand, no shelter, just black rock meeting open Atlantic. Storm clouds stacked above. White water driving in hard. Somewhere on that shelf: tidal pools, a surf break, and a coastal walk that feels like the island hasn't decided to let you in yet.
Fajã da Areia is not a beach. It's a geological event on Madeira's north coast — wild, undecorated, shaped by forces that had nothing to do with tourism. This is what the edge of an island actually looks like.
