Built in 1692, carved from a single basalt block, sitting on a rock where the river meets the sea. The Capelinha do Calhau was funded by villagers at the initiative of Inácio de Sousa — and according to a legend recorded in 1837, it was built to keep the ocean at bay. The Atlantic has tested that claim repeatedly. The chapel has been restored after floods more times than recorded, most recently in 2020. It is still there.
Dedicated to Saint Vincent, patron of the parish. Façade decorated with a mosaic of river stones. Gateway to the village. One of the most photographed chapels on the north coast — small, baroque, and completely unmoveable.
